Madrid nightlife guide: the best clubs and areas

Madrid is one of Europe’s best cities for a night out: clubs open until 6 am, a huge choice of venues and a party atmosphere almost every night of the week. We’re a local agency that has been organising nights out in Madrid for 7 years. Here’s everything you need to know, from which club to choose to getting past the door.

When Madrid goes out

If you’re coming from abroad, the timing is the biggest surprise. A typical Friday or Saturday looks like this:

  • 9 – 10:30 pm: dinner.
  • 11 pm – 1 am: drinks at a bar or terrace.
  • From 1 am: nightclub. This is when clubs start to fill up.
  • 5 – 6 am: most clubs close.

Thursday is the big student night, especially around Moncloa and Chamberí. Friday and Saturday almost everything is open. On Sundays, locals go to “tardeos”: parties that start in the afternoon and finish early.

The best clubs in Madrid by style

Big classic clubs in the city centre

  • Joy Eslava (Calle del Arenal 11): a 19th-century theatre next to Puerta del Sol, one of Madrid’s best-known clubs. Casual dress code.
  • Teatro Barceló (Calle de Barceló 11): an iconic building near Tribunal, currently temporarily closed. Smart dress code.

Exclusive clubs in Salamanca and Recoletos

For a more upmarket night with VIP tables, the Salamanca district concentrates many of the most sought-after clubs. The dress code here is usually smart: Saint Club, Vandido and Cristo Social.

Student nights

Moncloa, Argüelles and Chamberí are the favourite areas for university and study-abroad students, with parties during the week too: Mon, Copérnico and Cats.

Several clubs on one street

On Calle Orense you’ll find Nazca Club, Blue Club, Posh Club and Etnia Club within a few metres of each other, perfect if you want to change clubs during the night.

See all of them with address and dress code on our Nightclubs in Madrid list.

How booking works: guest list, ticket or VIP table

  • Guest list: free or reduced entry if you arrive before a time limit. The cheapest option.
  • Ticket: guarantees entry. Buying online is usually cheaper than at the door, where prices are higher and depend on capacity.
  • VIP table: a table for your group with bottles included. Split between the group, it’s often better value than it looks, and you have your own space all night.

Message us with your date, group size and budget and we’ll send you options with a fixed price, in English.

Getting in: ID, age and dress code

  • Bring your original passport or national ID card. Photos or photocopies are not accepted.
  • Minimum age is 18, and some clubs ask for older.
  • Check the dress code. “Smart” means a shirt and dress shoes: no sportswear, flip-flops or caps. “Casual” means neat, informal clothes.
  • Arrive as a group with the booking under one name: it’s much faster at the door.
  • The final decision at the door is always the club’s.

Getting home

The Madrid Metro closes around 1:30 am, so late at night your options are night buses (“búhos”), taxis or ride-hailing apps. The city centre, Orense and Moncloa are well connected and it’s easy to find a taxi when you leave.

Special dates

Halloween (31 October) and New Year’s Eve (31 December) are the busiest nights of the year: clubs run special parties and tickets sell out weeks in advance. For birthdays, bachelor parties and large groups, see our private events.
