How to celebrate a birthday at a Madrid nightclub

Celebrating a birthday at a club is one of the most popular plans in Madrid. To get it right, choose the club carefully, decide between a guest list and a VIP table, and organise it a little in advance. Here’s how, step by step.

VIP entrance of a nightclub at night

1. Group guest list or VIP table: which suits you

  • Group guest list: the cheapest option. You get in at a special price (free or reduced, depending on the club and night), usually until a cut-off time. Ideal for groups who want to go out without spending much.
  • VIP table: a table or area for your group, usually with bottles included. The best option if you want to stay together all night, have your own space and make it more special.

Not sure? Message us with the number of people and your rough budget and we’ll tell you which works out best.

2. Choose the club for your group

See every option with address and dress code in our Nightclubs in Madrid list.

3. Book in advance

On Fridays and Saturdays VIP tables fill up fast, especially on special dates. Ideally book one or two weeks ahead, and earlier if you’re a large group.

4. Birthday checklist

  • Confirm the final number of people and your arrival time.
  • Check the club’s dress code: everyone in the group has to follow it.
  • Everyone needs an original ID card, passport or driving licence. You must be 18 or over, and some clubs ask for older.
  • If you’re on a guest list, arrive before the cut-off time.
  • If someone is running late, let us know on WhatsApp.

5. Ideas to make the birthday special

  • The birthday bottle. At many clubs, if you have a VIP table, they can bring out the bottle with sparklers or prepare a little surprise. Ask us and we’ll arrange it.
  • Dinner before the club. The usual plan: dinner around 22:00, a drink afterwards and the club from 1:00. We can recommend a club near your restaurant.
  • A theme or matching outfits. If you want everyone in one colour or with a detail, ask us first: not every club allows costumes or props.
  • Cake or decorations. Clubs usually don’t allow outside food or decorations. If it matters to you, a private event is the better option.

How much does a birthday at a club cost?

  • Group guest list: the cheapest option. Everyone gets in free or at a reduced price if you arrive before the cut-off time.
  • VIP table: the price depends on the club and the bottles included. Split between the group, it often works out better value than it looks and guarantees your space all night.
  • Private event: for large groups or special celebrations, with an exclusive space. We’ll prepare a tailor-made quote.

Message us with the date and number of people and we’ll send you options at a fixed price, no commitment.

18th birthdays and young groups

If you’re celebrating an 18th, remember that the whole group must be 18 or over and bring their original ID — anyone who isn’t won’t get in. Some clubs ask for an older minimum age, so tell us the ages in your group and we’ll suggest clubs where everyone can get in.

FAQ

How far ahead should I book a birthday?

For a Friday or Saturday, ideally one or two weeks before, and earlier for a large group or a special date. For group guest lists a few days is usually enough.

Which is better, guest list or VIP table?

The guest list is cheaper, but you must arrive before the cut-off time and you don’t have your own space. A VIP table gives the group its own area with bottles included. Not sure? We’ll recommend one based on your budget.

Can someone arrive later?

Yes, if you have a VIP table. With a guest list, everyone must arrive before the cut-off time. If someone is running late, let us know on WhatsApp and we’ll try to sort it out.

Can we bring a cake or decorations?

As a rule, outside food and decorations aren’t allowed. Many clubs can bring out the bottle with sparklers if you have a VIP table. For something more complete, see our private events.

Which club do you recommend for a birthday?

It depends on the group: Joy Eslava for large groups and a big party, the Salamanca clubs for a more upmarket night, and Mon or Copérnico for student groups.
